Xiangming Xiao, Ph.D., is a Professor at Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space (EOS), University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, USA. He is leading the research activities at the Laboratory for Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis, which was a Center of Excellence for Application of Remote Sensing to Regional and Global Integrated Environmental Assessment (NASA). He has conducted research activities in a number of fields, including eco-physiology of mangrove forests in Southern China; pollen analysis for reconstruction of vegetation-climate in Holocene in Middle China; grassland ecosystems and climate variability in Inner Mongolia, China; biogeochemical modeling; remote sensing and geographical information systems; and integrated assessment of climate change. Dr. Xiao’s ongoing research activities include satellite-based modeling of gross primary production and transpiration, data-model assimilation for quantifying carbon fluxes and trace gases emissions, global-scale mapping of agriculture (cropping intensity, crop calendar and irrigation), ecology of infectious disease (avian influenza virus) and public health in Asia.
