Jia Feng
Deputy Director
Center for Environmental Education and Communications

As deputy director for China’s Center for Environmental Education & Communications since 1996, Feng Jia is responsible for organizing and coordinating the country’s national environmental education program. Jia previously served as both deputy division chief and senior program officer for the National Environmental Protection Agency (former State Environmental Protection Administration of China), where he developed major programs and plans that included the environmental education plan and the national environmental administration reform plan. He was also legal advisor for the Office of Organization Reform of State Council of China, where he drafted the Organization Management Regulation of State Council.

Since1994,he has involved in many international environmental programs as program director or coordinator, including UNDP China Environmental Awareness Program, the BELL program, U.S.-China Environmental Governance Training Program, the GLOBE program, and the Canada-China Cooperation in Climate Change Project.

He is the writer and director of Window on American Environment, which was published in China and aired on China Central Television (CCTV) on Earth Day 2004. He is also editor-in-chief of the World Environment Magazine, which was founded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the State Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) of China.

Since 2004, Jia has been invited by Peking University, Tsinghua University and Beijing Normal to teach Commercialization of Environmental Technologies and Environmental Public Policy Studies at their graduate school and MBA school. At the course’s completion, Jia organized two conferences, International Environmental Forum on Leapfrogging Development in China.

At end of 2005 Jia was appointed as Vice Chairman of Environmental Science and Engineering Teaching and Supervise Council by Ministry of Education of China. Jia is the professor at Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Shenyang Normal University and He Bei Science and Technology University. He is also vice president of the Professional Association for China's Environment (PACE), a member of the China National Environmental Science Association, and a member of the Commission on Education and Communication of the IUCN (World Conservation Union). He is the recipient of numerous honors, including the 2002 National Science Dissemination Award from the Ministry of Science & Technology and China Science & Technology Association.

From 2002 to 2003, Jia studied at the University of Washington in Seattle (USA) as a Hubert Humphrey Fellow. He holds a master’s degree in environmental law and bachelor’s degree in law from Peking University.
